Product Description
Pan head self tapping screws form or cut their own mating thread in suitable sheet metal or prepared pilot holes. They are used in automotive trim, equipment covers, light brackets, panels and housings where a separate nut or tapped insert is not required.
This range is supplied in C1022 case hardened steel to DIN 7981 / ISO 7049 with ST2.2-ST6.3 sizes and zinc plated finish. Case hardening gives the screw surface the hardness needed for thread forming in sheet metal while maintaining useful core toughness.
Self tapping screw selection should confirm screw size, length, point form, pilot hole size, sheet thickness, installation torque, coating and head/drive style. They are different from self drilling screws, which include a drill point for drilling into metal.

FAQ
Self tapping screws form threads in a prepared hole. Self drilling screws include a drill point that drills the hole before threading.
Most self tapping applications use a pilot hole sized according to screw size, sheet thickness and material.
Case hardening provides surface hardness for thread forming while keeping the core tougher for installation.
Zinc plated finish is available for general corrosion protection.
