ASTM F436 hardened washers are supplied for high-strength structural bolts, ASTM F3125 assemblies, ASTM A193 stud bolting, pressure flange bolting and heavy machinery joints where hardened bearing support is required. Material options include ASTM F436 Type 1, 1045 and 40Cr.
Hardened washers distribute load and provide a suitable bearing surface under heavy hex nuts or bolt heads in structural and pressure bolting systems. They are not interchangeable with ordinary flat washers when the project specifies hardness, dimensions, chamfer, coating or ASTM F436 compliance.
Plain finish is used in controlled or specified assemblies, HDG is common for outdoor structural bolting, and zinc phosphate may be specified for selected machinery or flange bolting applications. Washer diameter, thickness, hardness and coating must match the bolt system and project standard.

Common Questions Before RFQ
What are ASTM F436 hardened washers used for?
They are used with high-strength structural bolts, anchor rods and selected stud bolting assemblies where a hardened bearing washer is required by the project standard.
Can ordinary flat washers replace ASTM F436 washers?
No. If the specification requires ASTM F436, ordinary flat washers should not be substituted because hardness, dimensions and bearing performance may differ.
What finishes are available?
Common finishes include plain, hot-dip galvanized and zinc phosphate. Finish selection should match the bolt/nut system and project corrosion requirement.
What sizes are commonly requested?
Common RFQ sizes include M16, M20, M22, M24, M30, 3/4 in, 7/8 in and 1 in. Final size should match the bolt or anchor rod standard.
Can hardness reports be supplied?
