Product Description

Product Description & Key Specifications

Sleeper screws, also called screw spikes, are supplied for rail baseplate, sleeper and tie fastening systems where high pull-out resistance and controlled installation into timber, composite or selected sleeper systems are required. Material options include 45 Steel and 40Cr with 5.6 / 8.8 strength references.

Railway screw spike procurement should be based on the sleeper material, thread profile, shank diameter, head style, drive form, total length, coating and installation method. AREMA / EN 13481 references and OEM drawings are used because rail fastening systems often require project-specific geometry rather than generic screw dimensions.

Hot-dip galvanized finish is commonly selected for outdoor track corrosion protection, black oxide may be used for selected controlled environments, and waxed finish can help installation torque and driving performance. Final selection should follow the rail clip, baseplate, sleeper and maintenance standard used by the project.

Selection

Selection Advantages by Application

Rail Baseplate Fastening

M20, M22 and M24 screw spikes are commonly used to fix baseplates or fastening components to sleeper systems. Confirm sleeper material, pilot hole, installation torque and pull-out requirements.

Railway fasteners

Timber Sleeper / Tie Systems

Waxed or hot-dip galvanized screw spikes can support installation into timber sleepers where driving torque, corrosion protection and maintenance removal matter. Common RFQs include M18 x 160 and M20 x 170.

Track fastening solutions

Track Maintenance & Replacement

OEM screw spikes are often ordered for maintenance replacement where existing head style and thread profile must match legacy track hardware. A sample or drawing helps prevent fit mismatch.

FAQ

Common Questions Before RFQ

What is the difference between sleeper screws and screw spikes?

The terms are often used for the same railway fastening product. Both refer to threaded rail fasteners installed into sleepers or ties to secure baseplates or rail fastening components.

What information is needed for a screw spike RFQ?

Confirm diameter, length, thread profile, head type, material, grade, finish, sleeper type, drawing or sample, quantity and required test documents.

Should I choose HDG, black oxide or waxed finish?

HDG is commonly used for outdoor corrosion protection. Waxed finish can help installation torque and driving performance. Black oxide is used only where the project environment and corrosion requirement allow it.

What sizes are commonly requested?

Common RFQ models include M18 x 160, M20 x 170, M22 x 180, M24 x 195 and M27 x 200, but railway systems often require OEM geometry by drawing or sample.

Can pull-out or coating reports be supplied?

Material certificates, dimensional reports, coating reports and project-specific test reports can be supplied when requirements are confirmed before production.
