Product Description

Product Description & Key Specifications

Wheel bolts fasten the road wheel directly to the hub or axle assembly and must maintain clamp load under rotation, braking, cornering load, vibration and repeated service removal. They should not be confused with wheel nuts or wheel studs, because thread direction, seat geometry and head form are specific to the vehicle wheel and hub design.

This range covers 40Cr and SCM435 alloy steel wheel bolts in grades 10.9 and 12.9, commonly supplied from M12 to M24 for passenger vehicles, EVs, light trucks, buses, trailers and commercial vehicles. DIN 74361 and ISO 898-1 may be referenced, while seat type, thread pitch, shank length, head height and wrench size are normally finalized by the OEM drawing.

Zinc flake coating is commonly selected for wheel bolts because it provides corrosion protection with controlled coating thickness and reduced hydrogen embrittlement risk compared with conventional electroplating routes. RFQs should confirm ball seat, conical seat or flat seat geometry, thread pitch, coating color, friction requirement and salt spray test expectations.

FAQ

Common Questions Before RFQ

What is the difference between wheel bolts, wheel studs and wheel nuts?

Wheel bolts pass through the wheel and thread directly into the hub. Wheel studs are fixed in the hub and use wheel nuts. The correct part depends on the vehicle design.

Can wheel bolts be supplied to DIN 74361?

Yes. DIN 74361 wheel bolts can be supplied when the required dimensions, thread pitch, seat geometry, material grade and coating are confirmed.

Which seat geometry should I choose?

The wheel design controls the seat. Common options include ball seat, conical seat, spherical seat and flat seat. The drawing or sample should define the required geometry.

Why use zinc flake coating for wheel bolts?

Zinc flake coating provides corrosion resistance with controlled coating thickness and is commonly selected for high-strength automotive fasteners such as wheel bolts.

Are grade 12.9 wheel bolts available?

Yes, grade 12.9 can be produced in 40Cr or SCM435 when the OEM drawing, heat treatment route, coating and inspection criteria are approved.

What information is needed for a wheel bolt RFQ?

Send the standard or drawing, thread size and pitch, length, seat type, head form, material, grade, coating, quantity, packaging and certificate requirements.

Need DIN 74361 wheel bolts for automotive or commercial vehicle programs?

Send your drawing, thread size and pitch, seat geometry, material, grade, zinc flake coating requirement, quantity and inspection documents. We can quote wheel bolts for OEM, service and aftermarket supply.
