Product Description

Product Description & Key Specifications

Split pins, also called cotter pins, are simple mechanical locking fasteners used to secure clevis pins, drilled bolts, castellated nuts and linkage assemblies. This range is supplied in SS304 stainless steel to ISO 1234 / DIN 94, with passivated surface finish for general corrosion-resistant service.

The correct split pin is selected by nominal pin diameter, leg length, hole diameter and the assembly being locked. In a clevis assembly, the split pin prevents the main pin from sliding out; in a castle nut assembly, it prevents nut rotation after the nut slot and drilled hole are aligned. It should not be treated as a load-bearing pin.

SS304 split pins are practical for construction hardware, outdoor equipment, light machinery, access panels, linkages and maintenance kits where carbon steel pins may corrode too quickly. Common procurement sizes include 1.6 mm, 2 mm, 3.2 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6.3 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 13 mm, with length confirmed by the clevis or nut drawing.

Selection

Selection Advantages by Application

Clevis Pin and Linkage Locking

SS304 split pins are used with clevis pins and linkage joints to prevent the main pin from working loose. Typical RFQs specify pin diameter, length and the hole size in the clevis pin.

Industrial equipment fasteners

Construction Hardware and Outdoor Assemblies

Passivated stainless split pins are suitable for access gates, brackets, outdoor mechanisms and construction hardware where basic corrosion resistance is required.

Construction fasteners

Castle Nut Safety Locking

DIN 94 / ISO 1234 cotter pins are used with castellated nuts on low-speed mechanical assemblies. Final pin size should match the drilled bolt or shaft hole, not only the nut size.

FAQ

Common Questions Before RFQ

Are split pins load-bearing fasteners?

No. Split pins are retaining and locking components. The clevis pin, bolt or shaft carries the load; the split pin prevents movement or rotation.

What is the difference between ISO 1234 and DIN 94 split pins?

Both are common split pin standards. The final selection should follow the drawing or project standard for diameter, length and eye geometry.

Why use SS304 split pins?

SS304 provides better atmospheric corrosion resistance than plain carbon steel, making it useful for outdoor hardware, equipment and stainless assemblies.

How do I specify split pin size?

Specify nominal diameter, length, standard, material, finish and quantity. The mating hole diameter and retained component should also be checked.

Can split pins be packed in kits?

Yes. Split pins can be supplied in single sizes, mixed-size maintenance kits or project packages when size list and quantities are confirmed.

Need SS304 split pins for clevis or castle nut locking?

Send your ISO / DIN standard, pin diameter, length, material, finish, quantity and packaging requirement. We can quote passivated SS304 split pins for mechanical locking and maintenance assemblies.
